The fort in brief ...
The Fort de Louvois was built in the seventeenth century, following the plans of Vauban. This maritime fortification is nestled at the summit of a rock between the island of Oleron and the basin of Marennes. Its architecture is based on that of medieval castles: horseshoe shaped, the fort is composed of a central dungeon surrounded by a stave and a drawbridge.
Not to be missed ...
The themed exhibition, a tour detailing the history of the fort, the oyster museum, and at the summit, an incredible panoramic view on the island of Oleron and its surroundings!
